Category:Sign or Symptom
From WikiHIT
A symptom is a sensation or change in health function experienced by a patient. Examples of symptoms are fatigue/tiredness, pain, or nausea. A sign is observed by someone other than the patient, such as a clinician.
For the purpose of archetypes, signs are limited to those observations that are less objective than laboratory or pathology observations and in general could be taken either way. For example, a serum glucose level would not, in the archetype, be a sign because it has no direct health function manifestation even though some of a patient's signs and/or symptoms might be attributable to an abnormal glucose level.
Rash could be categorized as either a sign or a symptom but there is no need to make this distinction because the "observer" is identified in the archetype, should that detail be needed. Another reason to avoid the distinction is that symptoms such as pain, which can only be felt by the patient, might still be observed by someone other than the patient such as a mother noticing a grimace in a child's face.
