[edit]
In the field of healthcare informatics, a Clinical Data Definition is a collection of data attributes that are unique to an individual healthcare activity.
The Clinical Data Definitions compiled in WikiHIT are being defined in such a way that they can be used to create semantically interoperable representations of clinical data. For more on this point, see Reuse.
The Clinical Data Definitions being collated as part of WikiHIT include:
- A Clinical Data Definition "Template" and naming conventions
- A model for aggregating Clinical Data Definitions into usable components Assessments and Questionnaires
- A mechanism for relating Clinical Data Defintions to Clinical Codes
- A means to encapsulate Rules, Logic and Dependencies
- Links to External References scores for validation purposes
[edit] Clinical Data Defintion - Sub-categories
Each Clinical Data Defintion is usually categorized into a sub-category of Clinical Data Definition. This is done for two reasons. First, putting all Clinical Data Definitions into a single category would be difficult to manage. Second, sub-categories provide useful groupings that help support Clinical Data Definitions. For example, an Allergy can have a "reaction" relationship. But there is no need to list all possible reactions. Rather, the reaction relationship is to the category of Sign or Symptom meaning any Clinical Data Definition in that category applies.
