The Barthel Index is a functional assessment using standardized classification to measure skills such as activities of daily living and mobility. It is used fairly universally in hospitals for assessing patients with severe disabilities, more sensitive indices (e.g. AMPS) are required for community assessments.
This clinical data definition defines the total Barthel Index.
